“Oh wow!” Ducky quacked, by the huge muddy puddle.
“I must have that flower! To smell and to snuggle.”
Though Ducky’s flat feet helped to stay near the top,
The mud was so squishy that Ducky soon dropped!
KER-PLOP! went the mud, as Ducky sank through
Right up to waist, and the tail feathers too!
“Oh no!” Ducky called, “My friends! I am stuck!”
And everyone ran to come look at the duck.
As usual, Cubby was first with ideas.
“Hold onto this branch and lie flat like tortillas!”
But all of the tugging and huffing did nothing.
Poor Ducky was still stuck in spite of their puffing.
They tried throwing rocks. They tried clearing muck.
But nothing could do it. Poor Ducky stayed stuck.
“Oh no!” Ducky wailed as the sun nearly set,
“I’ll be here forever! I’m so, so upset!”
The friends were quite sad, and they started to frown.
To make matters worse, rain began pouring down!
Poor Ducky just flapped, but then moved just a teeny.
“The rain!” Ducky quacked. “I think it will free me!”
A toss of a branch, and with everyone tugging,
Our Ducky popped free from that crazy mud’s sucking.
“At last!” Ducky said on firm ground with the throng.
“From now on, no mud! I’ll just stay in the pond!”
